About Rep. Charles Smiley
State Representative Charles Smiley is serving his second term representing the 50th House District, which includes the cities of Grand Blanc and Burton, as well as Grand Blanc and Mundy townships.
Before coming to the House, Smiley served as mayor of Burton for 20 years and as a member of the Burton City Council for four years. He is also past president of both the Michigan Municipal League and the Michigan Mayors Association.
Prior to his election as mayor of Burton in 1991, Smiley worked at General Motors Truck and Bus Assembly Plant in Flint for 18 years where he also was a UAW union representative. Smiley also spent four years as a lieutenant with the Burton Fire Department.
Smiley is a member of the Burton Ministerial Clergy Association and is Chairman of the Flint Area Narcotics Group. He is also an active member of Shriners International, the Michigan Masons and the Rotary Club of Burton.
He and his wife, Pam, have two children, Angie and Jeff.
