LANSING – State Representative Jim Slezak (D-Davison) today announced that Grid Logic, a high tech company that produces smart grid technology that help utilities lower their energy costs and more easily adopt green, renewable sources of energy, will establish operations in Michigan. Slezak was instrumental in supporting Grid Logic's decision to set up shop here in Michigan, which is expected to create more than 150 jobs.
"We have a unique opportunity to use stimulus funding to help Grid Logic and other promising clean energy companies to locate and thrive here in Michigan," Slezak said. "With our world-class workforce and efforts to attract high-tech companies like Grid Logic, it's clear that Michigan is becoming a magnet for these emerging businesses that will fuel job growth and economic investment in our state."
Grid Logic's "Intelligent Grid Devices" enable electric utilities to operate with lower electrical losses and more easily incorporate alternative sources of energy onto the grid, such as wind and solar power. Such smart grid technologies allow utilities to operate more efficiently in the face of increasing demands for energy.
"This is exactly the type of business we need in Michigan and exactly the type of technology we should be exploring to upgrade our grid," said State Senator Jud Gilbert (R-Algonac), who worked with Slezak to bring Grid Logic to Michigan. "Grid Logic is a job creator and I look forward to continuing to assist them in their expansion."
Grid Logic projects that the use of its devices could save the United States more energy annually than the current contribution of solar and wind combined, while reducing the need for burning fossil fuels that create carbon emissions and harmful greenhouse gases.
"We expect to conservatively create over 150 manufacturing, engineering and administrative jobs in Michigan over the next five years," said George Caravias, Chief Executive Officer for Grid Logic. "We are hopeful that worldwide demand will require us to expand even more quickly."
